In Rene Simoes' managerial debut, Costa Rica snapped a three-game losing streak in a big way, crushing Trinidad and Tobago 4-0 at Estadio Saprissa. Seattle Sounders FC defender Leo Gonzalez was an unused substitute for the Ticos, who scored three goals in a 13-minute span in the second half to put the game away and move into third place, two points in front of Honduras.

D.C. United defender Julius James started for the Soca Warriors, but was sent off with a straight red card in the 65th minute and will miss T&T's final qualifier Wednesday against Mexico.

England had already clinched a berth in next year's World Cup, but saw its bid to go undefeated in UEFA qualification go up in smoke Saturday with a 1-0 loss to Ukraine at Dnipro Arena. Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckhamwas left off Fabio Capello's 18-man gameday roster. England wraps up its qualification Wednesday against Belarus at Wembley Stadium.
