Uksoccershop Reviews 2009 - 10 Season Football Shirts

After the credit crunch effected 2008-09 season, retailers adopted a cautious approach to their stock purchasing for the new season as they were careful not to be stuck with slow moving stock. However, subsequent sales figures show that the loyalty of football fans seems to be recession proof as many club team jerseys were sold out even before Christmas with many supporters having to miss out on their favourite team kit. With the season now almost over, leading UK online retailer looks at what football shirts have been hit and misses during 2009-10.

Best Selling 2009-10 Football Shirts

Barcelona - The clear winner for this season has been Barcelona. Having won everything in 2008-09, demand for Barca jerseys was unprecedented in summer 2009 and this led to a shortage of stock between August and November, although luckily more stock was received just in time for Christmas. Lionel Messi - the worlds best player - was also our best selling player and contributed heavily to sales. While the home shirt was by far the most popular kit, the suspiciously pink looking away shirt also proved a hit with metrosexuals everywhere!

Real Madrid - In recent seasons, Real Madrid shirts have proved very unpopular with supporters, but it turns out that signing two of the worlds best players has a positive impact on sales. With pre-orders made well in advance of the signings of Ronaldo and Kaka, all retailers were caught out and even Adidas were left short of stock, making it virtually impossible to get your hands on a Madrid jersey after the initial wave of sales.

Fiorentina - A surprise entrant at the top of the list was Italian side Fiorentina. Although not one of the biggest players in Italy, the distinctive purple shirt of La Viola is a favourite of any boy who grew up watching the legendary Gabrial Batistuta on Channel 4. Montenegro striker Stefan Jovetic emerged as a huge hit with supporters and if his ability is as high as his popularity, he is in for a big future.

Arsenal - After disappointing sales in 2008-09, the Gunners resurgence on the pitch led to a sharp increase in sales for 2009-10. Nike tried something very different with the new jerseys and it seemed to work, with both the away and 3rd kits ranking highly among our best sellers. Cesc Fabregas remains the most popular Arsenal star although Robin van Persie grabbed a fair share of the sales figures, despite his long term injury. Sales of the new Arsenal shirt will largely be determined by how they finish this season.

Poor Selling 2009-10 Football Shirts

Man Utd - Whether it was a protest against the Glazers, a protest against the American football style kits or just a drop in sales attributed to the loss of Ronaldo, Manchester United jerseys did not prove to be a hit at UKSoccershop or elsewhere this season and most retailers started trying to clear the jerseys immediately after Christmas. Wayne Rooney's popularity massively increased this season, but it wasn't enough to turn around sales figures.

Liverpool - Understandably, Liverpool's poor form led to a drop in sales for 2009-10. This was despite Adidas producing a very nice looking away jersey, which actually had very strong sales in the first half of the season. However, as the Reds performance dipped, so too did the sales figures of Liverpool shirts.
