Mercedes Guardian: International Intrigue Or Government Protection?
It could be a scene ripped from an international spy novel: a government leader in an obscure third world country is returning from his trip abroad, traveling from the airport to his palace in an eighteen vehicle motorcade. As the entourage of black limos and SUVs whisk its way through the capital city, all other traffic comes to a standstill to allow the president to quickly reach his destination.
Suddenly, from a nearby alley, the unmistakable crack of gunfire pierces the late afternoon sky and is soon joined by a whoosh of one or more mortar rocket rounds. Three of the accompanying vehicles explode on impact while the presidential limo, a sleek Mercedes S Class model, pulls away picking up speed as its occupants escape harm.
Mercedes S Class: Special Armored Version
The story is fiction, but the idea that it could happen somewhere in the world is not. In fact, Mercedes-Benz does offer a vehicle that can withstand small artillery fire and certain explosive devices, an actual model that has been dubbed “Mercedes Guardian” by some and S-Guard by others.
The armored version of the S Class is available to people who have the means to pay for this type of vehicle. No one knows the exact price but given that the standard S Class can easily hit six figures before a limo option is chosen, the aftermarket retrofitted armor plated Mercedes Guardian probably starts at closer to one million dollars each.
Customized To Meet Your Requirements
And this shouldn't come as a surprise given all that the Mercedes Guardian has to offer: in addition to bullet proof glass, armor reinforced plating and communication technology fit for a war room, the specialty Mercedes has a self sealing gas tank, special alarm system and wheels which can run flat at high speeds for more than fifty miles.
Of course, those are the features you know about as dignitaries and celebrities work directly with Mercedes-Benz to customize their vehicles accordingly. Bull bars, gun ports, electric door handle shocks, a tack dispensing mechanism and bomb jammers are just some of the popular options for Mercedes Guardian buyers as are roof hatches, suspension upgrades and an oil spray system to help you lose whoever is following you.
Terrorist Attack Or Paparazzi?
Finally, if it is a Hummer, Cadillac, BMW, Lincoln or some other vehicle you want to outfit, those too can be given the guardian treatment. In these days of international espionage, drug running, celebrity showmanship and political intrigue, people with the means to buy a rolling fortress are doing so with several aftermarket outfitters willing to meet their every need in a bid to help them thwart terrorist attacks or at least the overly enthusiastic paparazzi whom they can lose in a trail of smoke.
